Fred Kooi, 91, of Denver, Colorado, formerly of Sioux County, Wednesday, February 5, 1986, after a brief illness, at a hospital in Denver. Memorial services were at Second Christian Reformed Church, on February 7, with the Rev. Calvin Compagne officiating and burial was at Fairmont Cemetery with his grandsons as casketbearers.

Kooi was born April 19, 1894 in rural Lebanon, Iowa and attended elementary school there. He was a veteran of World War I and served in the army in France. He married Ida Sybesma on January 27, 1921 in Lebanon. She died February 2, 1984. They farmed in the Lebanon and Hospers, Iowa areas, moving to Denver in 1947. Mr. Kooi was a member of 2nd Christian Reformed Church in Denver where he was custodian for many years. In 1984 he became a resident at University Hills Christian Nursing Home in Denver.

Survivors include five sons, Ray, Peter and Glenn all of Denver, Clarence of Haiti and Stanley of Sherman Oaks, California; five daughters, Mrs. George (Gladys) Gritter and Mrs. John (Vicki) Peterson of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Mrs. Neal (Bernice) Afman and Mildred of Denver and Mrs. Douglas (Irene) Chadwick of Modesto, California; three brothers, John and George of Sioux Center and Ellis of Rock Valley, two sisters, Mrs. Bertha Vander Lugt of Hawarden; thirty one grandchildren and twenty eight great-grandchildren.
