THE HAND OF DEATH

Mrs. M. Van Wyk

Grietje Dyk was born June 12, 1847 in Wolvega The Netherlands. She came to America in 1872 with her parents and settled on a farm in Sioux County near Hospers. On March 29th, 1873, she was united in marriage to M. Van Wyk, living west of Newkirk for many years and finally moved to Hull where they lived for the past number of years.

Mrs. Van Wyk was a sincere Christian lady--few living any nearer the teachings of the Bible than herself. She was always ready to help the sick and needy, fond wife, a loving mother and beloved grandmother. Besides a loving and devoted husband, she leaves seven children--John M., Mrs. Charles Oelrich, Mrs. H. P. Vos, of Doon, L. W. of Sanborn, Sarah, Arie, of Orange City, and Mrs. Tom DeKoster and 34 grandchildren to mourn her taking away. Many, Many friends including the Index family tender their sincere sympathy to the bereaved family and relatives.

Interment in the Hope Cemetery in Hull.

Mrs. Michael Van Wyk died at her home in Hull, Tuesday, May 25, of heart failure. Deceased was born in Wolvenga, Netherlands June 12, 1847 and was therefore sixty-seven years, eleven months and thirteen days old. She came to America in 1872, coming direct to Sioux county. She was married to M. Van Wyk of Sioux county March 29, 1873. To this union seven children were born, all of whom survive her. The funeral was held at the Reformed church May 27th, of which the deceased had been a faithful member. Interment was made in Hope cemetery. She is survived by her husband and children, J.M. of this place, L.W. of Sanborn, A.M. of Orange City, Sarah at home, Mrs. C. Oelrich of this place, Mrs. H.P. Vos of Doon, Iowa, and Mrs. T. De Koster. The bereaved husband and children have the sympathy of the entire community in their great loss.

Hospers column: Mrs. Mike Van Wyk died very suddenly of heart failure at Hull on Tuesday. Mrs. Van Wyk was a relative of several Hospers people, the Van Wyks having formerly lived on the Arie Van Wyk place, eight miles west of town. Mr. and Mrs. G. Draayom, Mr. and Mrs. T.L. De Boer and daughter Grace and Mr. and Mrs. Nic Dyk and daughters Grace and Margaret were among those who went to Hull to attend the funeral.

Local Overflow: Mrs. M. Van Wyk of Hull, one of the pioneers of Sioux county, died at her home in Hull Tuesday morning at 12:30 o'clock. Her death came as a shock as she seemed to be in good health. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock. An obituary will be published in the Hull news next week.
