Anna Kool, 93, of Rock Valley and formerly of Boyden, Iowa, died Tuesday, July 30, 1991, at the Valley Manor Nursing Home in Rock Valley. Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, August 2, 1991; at the United Presbyterian Church of Boyden. Burial was in Sheridan Township Cemetery, Boyden. Visitation was held at the Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley.

Mrs. Kool, the former Anna Scholten, was born May 25, 1898, at Hospers, daughter of Gerrit and Hendrijke (Van Whye) Scholten. She married Edgar De Valois Nov. 11,1919, at Boyden. They farmed south of Boyden until Mr. De Valois' death in a farming accident Aug. 26, 1926. She then moved into town and purchased the Boyden Drug Store which she operated for 30 years. In September of 1944, she married James Kool at Boyden. He died Jan. 15,1959. She moved to the Valley Manor Nursing Home in January of 1989.

She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church of Boyden, the Federated Women's Club, the Boyden Commercial Club and a charter member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Survivors include three daughters and their husbands, Dorothy and Charles Wynia of Rock Valley, Harriet and Earl Warne of Billings, Mont., and Merry and Harold Wissink of Madison, Wis.; two step-daughters, Frances Reinke of Sibley, Iowa, and Joyce and her husband, Ray Hulley of Sanborn; two sisters, Christina ; GosseIink of Tucson, Ariz., and Mina Auringer of Sibley; l3 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Gerhard, John and Benjamin Scholten, and a sister, Hatlie Rensink. Memorial donations may be made in - her name to the United Presbyterian Church of Boyden.
