Sioux County Capital, April 20, 1981

William Van Gelder, 89, died Friday evening at the Heritage House in Orange City following a lingering illness.

Services were held Monday, April 20, 1981 at 10:30 a.m. in the First Christian Reformed Church. Rev. Thomas C. Vanden Heuvel officiated. Mrs. Peter Jeltema was the organist and Mr. & Mrs. Bob Van Gelder sang a duet, accompanied by Bev. Van Gelder.

Casket bearers were Stan Goslinga, Daryl Muilenburg, Jerry Van Gelder, Evan Van Gelder, Loren Van Gelder and Roger Van Gelder.

Interment was in West Lawn Cemetery, Orange City under direction of the Van Gelder Funeral Home, Orange City.

He was born December 8, 1891 in The Netherlands, the son of Riek & Marjie (Bakker) Van Gelder. He was married to Effie Feenstra February 27, 1917 at Ireton. She died February 2, 1980.

They farmed in the Alton-Orange City area until retiring and moving to Orange City in 1958. He was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church.

Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Stewart (Theresa) Goslinga of Sheldon; Mrs. Vernon (Margaret) Muilenburg of Maurice; and Mrs. Rodney (Carolyn) Vande Brake of Sheldon; five sons, Raymond of Denver; Dick of Orange City; Wilbert of Rock Rapids; Edward of Pipestone, Minn. and Arnold of Denver; 26 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two brothers, John and Dick R. both of Orange City. He was preceded in death by his wife, a grandson, and one sister.
