Died: December 10, 1989Mrs. Mary Van Gelder, 85, of Orange City died Sunday, December 10, 1989, in Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull.
A prayer service will be held 10 a.m. today, Wednesday in the Van Etten-Oolman-Van Gelder Funeral Home in Orange City. Funeral Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton. Monsignor Nicholas Ruba and the Reverend Donald Smith will officiate. Burial will be in West Lawn Cemetery at Orange City.
Mrs. Van Gelder, the former Mary Tryszczyla, was born August 5, 1904, in Poland. She came to the United States and to Sioux City as a child with her family.
On July 30, 1939, she married Peter Van Gelder at Sioux City. The couple made their home on the Hanemaayer farm west of Orange City. In 1980 they became residents of Pleasant Acres. He died January 31, 1988, in Hull.
Mrs. Van Gelder was a Catholic.
Survivors include a daughter, Marie Turner of Sioux City; four sisters, Tillie Stanek of Ohio, Stella Harbeck of Sioux City, and Edna Platt and Rosie Moe, both of Kansas; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Mary Van Gelder, age 85, of Orange City, passed away Sunday, Dec. 10 at Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull.
Mary was born August 5, 1904 in Poland, the daughter of John Tryszczyla and Mary Pyrch Tryszczyla. At the age of two she came to the United States with her family and they settled at Sioux City.
In 1980 they both became residents of Pleasant Acres. Mr. Van Gelder passed away Jan. 31, 1988 at Hull.
Mary was a member of the Catholic faith.
Survivors include her daughter Marie Turner of Sioux City; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Tillie Stanek of Canton, Ohio; Stella Harbeck of Sioux City; Edna Platt of Ozwakie, Kan., and Rosie Moe of Valley Falls, Kan.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her two brothers, Stanley and John Tryszczyla.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Dec. 13, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton. The Rev. Monsignor Nicholas J. Ruba and the Rev. Father Donald M. Smith officiated. Interment followed at West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City, under the direction of the Van Etten-Oolman-Van Gelder Funeral Home of Orange City.
