James Kooiker, 6, died January 18 at Luverne Community Hospital in Luverne, Minnesota. He was born on April 19, 1983, the son of Harlyn and Frieda (Van Ess) Kooiker.

He attended the Crippled Children's School in Sioux Falls since September 1987. He also appreciated the association with Magnolia School District and Jan Nuffer.

His brothers are Kirk and Karl and sisters Allsa and Diana, all at home. Paternal grandmother is Joan Kooiker of Middleburg and maternal grandparents are James and Alice Van Ess of Monroe, Washington. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather and a brother, Scott.

Funeral services were at Christian Reformed Church in Luverne, Minnesota, on January 22, the Rev. Paul Bakker officiating. Burial was at Ashwood Cemetery in Kanaranzi, Minnesota.
