Died: April 30, 2008, Sheldon, IowaMr. Jon Bomgaars, age 31, of Hull, passed away on Wednesday, April 30, 2008, at the Sanford Care Center in Sheldon, after suffering from a rare form of dementia for several years.
There will be a memorial service on Saturday, May 3, at 10:30 a.m. at the First Reformed Church in Hull. The Rev. Verlyn Boone will officiate. Interment will be prior to the service at the Hope Cemetery in Hull.
Arrangements are with the Oolman Funeral Home in Hull.
Jonathan Lee was born on May 17, 1976, in Rock Valley, the son of Arlin Lee and Denise Eileen (Van Den Top) Bomgaars. He was raised at Perkins and graduated from the Boyden-Hull High School. He attended the University of Sioux Falls, S.D. on a basketball scholarship and then went to Southeast Technical Institute in Sioux Falls for two years, graduating with a business degree.
On June 25, 1999, he married Wendy Jo Heemskerk in Hull. They made their home in Worthing, South Dakota, until November of 2001, when they moved to Hull. In January of 2003 he became a resident of the care center.
During college, Jon worked at Ace Hardware, and after college, he was an area representative for Sturdevant's Auto Parts, both in Sioux Falls.
He was a member of the First Reformed Church in Hull, and he belonged to Junior Achievement in Worthing.
Jon enjoyed all sports and was especially talented in basketball. He liked NASCAR and going hunting, boating, skiing, and camping outdoors.
Survivors include his son, Braden Jon Bomgaars, of Des Moines; his parents, Lee and Dee Bomgaars, of Hull; a sister and her husband, Joni and Larry Den Joed, of Larchwood; three nephews and nieces, Alexis, Kaden, and Brady Den Hoed; a special family member, Christine James, of Sioux Falls; and his grandmothers, Gerdena Sikma, of Hull, and Arlene Van Den Top, of Rock Valley.
He was preceded in death by his other grandparents.
Memorials will be directed to the Alzheimer's Unit of the Sanford Senior Care Center.
