Esther L. Kooiker
Mrs. Esther Kooiker, 82, of Hull died Monday, March 9, at her residence in Hull. A memorial service was held on Thursday, March 12, at the American Reformed Church in Hull with the Rev. David Ter Beest officiating. Interment was at Hope Cemetery in Hull. A prayer service was held prior to the memorial service on Thursday at the Oolman Funeral Home in Hull.Esther Lillian was born April 4, 1915, in Hull, the daughter of Dick and Ida (Bregman) De Koster. She was raised in Hull where she graduated from the Hull High School in 1932. She then attended the Iowa State Teachers College, now the University of Northern Iowa, in Cedar Falls, graduating in 1937. After teaching in a country school for two years, she taught for three years in the George Community School.
On June 16,1939, she married John W. Kooiker in Hull. They made their home in Hull where Esther took a vital interest in church, school and community affairs. She was a member of the American Reformed Church where she was active in the Reformed Church Women's Ministries, serving as an officer for several years.
Survivors include her husband; two sons and their wives, Clayton and Janice and Calvin and Dixie, all of Le Mars; four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Mrs. John (Jeanette) Semmens and Mrs. Bob (Adelaide) Prestley, both of Riverside, Calif., and Mrs. G. J. (Nelva) Vander Schaaf of Hull.
