John Kooiker was born January 2, 1854 in Staphorst Overijssel, Netherlands. He was the second son of Mr. and Mrs. Harm Kooiker.
Mr. Kooiker came to the United States in 1883. He worked in Holland MI for two and one half years and then returned to the Netherlands for a period of six months.He then returned to this country with Miss Jennie Kooiker whom he married July 5, 1887. To this union 12 children were born of whom 10 are still living, the other two having died at an early age.
After his marriage he continued farming west of Hull until 1910 when he moved to Hull and has been a resident here ever since.
He died March 16 at his home in Hull, death being due to a severe attack of pneumonia which lasted less than three days . Besides his widow he is survived by the ten children; Herman, Luke, Ralph, Nick, Mrs. A. Vande Stouwe, Dick. Ruth, Peter, Kathryn and Clarence, 23 grand-children, three sisters and one brother.
He was a loving husband and father and his memory will long be cherished by the bereaved relatives. He was a charter member of the local First Reformed church.
