Arthur Vander Ploeg, 76, of Sioux Center, died Tuesday, Nov. 12, at Mesa, Arizona.

Memorial services were Friday at First Reformed Church in Sioux Center, with the Rev. Carl Boersma officiating. Burial was in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Sioux Center.

Vander Ploeg was born August 28,1915, in Sioux Center. He married Frieda Brunsting June 15, 1937, in Sioux Center. He was in the furniture and funeral-home business in Sioux Center for about 40 years.

He was active in civic affairs, having served as president of the Park Board in Sioux Center and as president of Sioux Center Cemetery Association. He served as elder, Sunday-school superintendent and teacher at First Reformed Church. He and his wife wife served as missionaries and spent time in Ethiopia and Bahrain. As an extension of that experience they developed an audio/visual program which they showed throughout the country to gather support for missionaries. He presently was a member of New Life Reformed Church in Sioux Center.

Survivors include his wife; a son and his wife, Stanley and Rejonna Vander Ploeg of Sioux Center; three daughters, and their husbands, Margery and Howard Beernink of Sioux Center, Arlis and Gerry Vande Garde of Bloomington, Minnesota, and Belva and Elwin Van Gorp of Sheldon; seven grandchildren; two brothers, James of Sheldon and the Rev. Harold of Monmouth, Illinois; two sisters and one brother- in -law, Edith Kjerland of Kent, Washington, Eileen and Bernard Hogan of Waxhaw, North Carolina.

He was preceded in death by an ifant son, Conrad; a grandson, Lee Beernink; and a granddaughter, Lynne Beernink.
