An apparent heart attack claimed the life of well-known area auctioneer Clifford D. Bogaard Thanksgiving Day. Mr. Bogaard, 55, operated the Tri-State Auction Co. in Sioux Center for the past 25 years.

Services were held at 1:30 P.M. November 29 in the Trinity Reformed Church with Rev. Donald Lenderink officiating. Burial was in the West Lawn Cemetery under the direction of the Van Etten Funeral Home.

Mr. Bogaard was born April 2, 1920 at Orange City. He married Ethel De Graaf on May 23, 1941 at Newkirk. He was a member of the Trinity Reformed Church and served on the church board.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Jerry (Karen) Keithley, and Mrs. Alan (Mary Jane) Hofland, both of Orange City and a son Nolan of Sioux Center; six grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. George (Kathy) Frerichs of LeMars and Mrs. Lee (Ruth) Van Voorhis of Sioux City and a brother Milton of Orange City.

Cliff (as he was known to thousands of Northwest Iowans) wrote a weekly column in the widely circulated Livestock Market Digest, received by most farm families of the area. The column was incorporated regularly in a page sponsored by Tri-State Livestock Auction, Inc., and therefore Cliff felt free to write into his weekly column his personal feelings and thinking.

Two days before his passing his last column was published and included the following excerpts:

“Let us remind ourselves not to become complacent and forget that every day that we are allowed to live is a gift from God for which we should be thankful. Even for those confined to sick beds there is reason to appreciate our health.”
“We are thankful for our customers, many of who we may not have seen recently, and are reminded never to take our steady customers for granted.’
“Let’s not forget the word “Thank You” on this Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 27, 1975 (this was the day Cliff died). Let us all together remember the great country in which we live, which our forefathers founded almost 200 years ago.:
“May we not only give thanks but with grateful hearts ask God the Father to preserve his great country for which so many sacrifices have been made by so many people in the past.”
“We are grateful for the opportunity to be able to do business with the best people in the world. We believe this is the best place in the world to live. Thanks to all of you. Have a nice day Thursday. Come and see us Friday.”
