Lucy Faber

Lucy Faber, 91, of Orange City died Thursday, November 9, at Orange City Area Health System Long Term Care Facility. Funeral service was Monday, November 13, at 10 a.m. at First Christian Reformed Church in Orange City with the Rev. Timothy Ouwinga officiating. Interment was at the West Lawn cemetery in Orange City.

Mrs. Faber was born on July 24, 1915, in rural Orange City, the daughter of Gerben and Elizabeth (Siebersma) Kroeze. She was raised in the Orange City area and graduated from Boyden Christian School. On March 10, 1938, she married Peter Jeltema at Orange City. They made their home in Northwest Iowa, except for four years in Michigan. They farmed at Matlock and Newkirk and later moved to Orange City, where she assisted her husband in operating the College Inn and Pete & Lucy's Lunch Wagon.

He died December 30, 1969, in Orange City. She was an assistant cook at the Heritage House Nursing Home in Orange City. On December 29, 1976, she married Peter Faber in Orange City, where they continued to live. He died on March 21, 1992, in Orange City. In October the Pioneer Memorial Home in Orange City. In late 2000, she transferred to the Long Term Care Facility.

She was a member of First Christian Reformed Church in Orange City, where she belonged to the Faith, Hope, and Love Society. She was a former member of the Monica Society and had been active in their Cash for Trash program. She enjoyed cooking, baking and crocheting, and she made afghans for her grandchildren.

Survivors include her daughter and her husband, Elizabeth and Harold Bruxvoort of Jenison, Michigan; three sons and their wives, Peter Dean and Gladys Jeltema, Rod and Ruth Jeltema and Gary and Anita Jeltema, all of Orange City; two stepdaughters, Emilene "Clem" Kleinwolterink of Sheldon and Karen and her husband Delmar Bergsma of Spirit Lake; two stepdaughters-in-law and their husbands, Marjorie and Orville Beltman and Judy and Gerald Jongerius, all of Orange City; 10 -grandchildren; 10 step- grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 30 step-great-grandchildren; 15 stepgreat- great-grandchildren; four sisters, Gertrude and her husband Marion Wiersma of Orange City, Matilda Newendorp of Sioux Center, Jennie and her husband Albert De Haan of Orange City and Elizabeth and her husband Kenneth Vande Berg of Arizona; and two sisters- in-law, Marcene Kroeze and Marilyn Kroeze, both of Orange City.

She was also preceded in death by three stepsons, Freeman Faber, Otto Faber and Harlan in infancy; a stepson-in-law, Edwin Kleinwolterink; a granddaughter; a stepgrandson; a step-great-grandson; a sister, Wilma Fedders; two brothers, Steve and Gary Kroeze; four halfsisters, Grace Wielenga, Jessie Huisman, Nellie Van Gelder and Rena Huisman; and three half-brothers, Pete, John and Harry Kroeze. Memorials may be directed to Orange City Christian School and Unity Christian High School in Orange City.
