Died: August 1, 1984 Sioux City, IowaMr. Joe Tensen, 73, died August 1, at the Marian Health Center, following a lingering illness.
Services were held Saturday, August 4, at 1:30 p.m. at the Newkirk Reformed Church. Rev. Eugene Voss officiated. Burial was in the Newkirk Cemetery under direction of the Van Gelder Funeral Home of Orange City.
Mr. Tensen was born October 12, 1910, at Sheldon, the son of Arie and Johanna (Hofland) Tensen. He married Hattie Lyftogt February 7, 1934, at Newkirk. The couple farmed north of Newkirk all of their married life and moved into Hospers in 1982.
He was a member of the Newkirk Reformed Church where he served as elder, deacon, and teacher. He was a member of the men's brotherhood and men's chorus.
Survivors include his wife, Hattie; two daughters, Mrs. John (Arlene) Van Es, Newkirk and Mrs. Marlo (Harriet) Vanden Hull, Sheldon; ten grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Peter of Raymond, Minn.; six sisters, Mrs. Peter (Katherine) Postma, Sanborn, Mrs. Joe (Marie) Van Aalsburg, Wilmar, Minn., Mrs. Nellie Dekker, South Holland, Ill., Mrs. Elizabeth Van Aalsburg, Phoenix Ariz., Mrs. Gerrit (Hattie) Alons, Boyden and Mrs. William (Gertrude) Verburg, Primghar.
He was preceded in death by a twin brother, Harry, also a brother, Clarence and a great-grandchild, J. Allen De Witt.
