Vander Mei, Henry "Hein" 1869-1942

Mr. Henry "Hein" Vander Mei, 72, died at his home Thursday afternoon following a lingering illness. Mr. Vander Mei was born in the Providence Friesland, Netherlands on May 8, 1869. He and his family came to America thirty-one years ago, settling at Hospers, Iowa. The past sixteen years he had lived in Sioux Center,Iowa.

At Tjumaarum, Netherland on June 24, 1893, he married Katie De See and to this union eight children were born, four sons, and four daughters.

He is survived by his widow and children, Gerrit of Artesia, Calif., Cornie of Ireton, John of Artesia, Calif., Dick of Bellflower, Calif., Gertie (Mrs. John Dykstra) of Maurice, Agnes (Mrs. Ed Vander Hoef) of Hawarden, Rena, (Mrs. Al Vander Veen) of Hawarden, and Susan, (Mrs. Walter De Vries) of Bellflower, Calif. He also leaves one sister Mrs. Susan Kribbe of Grand Rapids, Michigan, twenty-four grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Funeral services were held Monday, March 2, 1942 at 1:30 p.m. from the home and at 2:00 p.m. from Central Reformed Church. The Rev. R. Meengs officiated, he was assisted by the Rev. Mr. M. Arnoys. Bearers were R. De Groot, C. Maliepaard, D. Van Hunnik, S. Van Dokkumburg, A. Popma, and T. Faber. Burial was in the Sioux Center Cemetery.
