Dominic Moes died at the Wm. Walgenbach home on Wednesday December 9th of old age. Deceased was born in Ohagen, Luxemburg 83 years ago. He came to the United States at the age of 17 and settled in Sioux county in 1874. Deceased was a civil war veteran. He volunteered at Toneka, Ill., and was a member of Company B 104, Toneka, Ill. He marched with Sherman through North and South Carolina to the sea and back again. He was wounded on September 20, 1863, in the battle of Chickamaugua. On October 9, 1867 he was united in marriage to Miss Christina Kant-Klein at Peru, Illinois. This union was blessed with six daughters all of whom survive. After settling in Sioux county deceased engaged in farming and amassed a fortune of more than $75,000.00. Funeral services were held from St. Anthony's church on Saturday Dec. 12th. The services were conducted by Rev. Dries. Interment was made in St. Anthony's cemetery. The surviving daughters are Mrs. W. Walgenbach, Hospers; Mrs. J. Heitzman, Hospers; Mrs. J.S. Enders, Winnebago, Minn.; Mrs. Martin Klein, Burke, S.D.; Mrs. W.E. Jennings, Sheldon; and Mrs. F. Baadte, Sheldon.

Dominic Moes, civil was veteran, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. William Walgenback, following a brief illness. He was 83 years of age. In the civil war he was a member of Co. B. 104th Illinois infantry and marched to the sea with General Sherman. He was wounded in the battle of Chicamaugua, September 20, 1863, but returned later to the battle line and served to the end of the war. He settled in Sioux County in 1874, encountering many of the early day hardships, but acquired a comfortable competence.

He is survived by six married daughters.
