B.W. “Willie” Hevern, 78, of Rock Valley died Sunday, March 27, on a hospital in Rock Valley.

Services were at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, March 30, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Rock Valley with the Rev. Donald R. Smith officiating. Burial was in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Hevern was born May 14, 1909, on the family farm northwest of Rock Valley. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Philippines and New Guinea. He married Margaret Van Vooren February 21, 1950, in Hull. The couple farmed on the family farm until 1956 when he began working with the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul Railroad, retiring in 1972.

Hevern was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Disabled American Veterans and Veterans of Foreign Wars of Rock Valley.

Survivors include his wife; five sons, David of Dacono, Colorado, Lyle of Esterville, Leo at home, Terry of Sioux Center and Larry of Inwood; two daughters, Sheila Driesen of Sioux Center and Jane Schelling of Orange City; a brother, Gerald “Judd” of Rock Valley; and five grandchildren.
