Died: November 30, 1993 Sioux Center, IowaAlbert Terpstra,90, of Sioux Center died Tuesday, November 30, at Sioux Center Health Care Center. He was the last living veteran from Sioux Center who fought in World War I. Services were Friday at Central Reformed Church in Sioux Center with the Rev. Dennis Wilcox officiating. Burial was in Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Terpstra was born on June 17, 1897, in Prinsburg, Minnesota, the son of John and Zeanna (Kleinhuizen) Terpstra. He lived most of his youth in Prinsburg, except for about two years in Munster, Indiana. He entered the Army in 1917 and served in France during World War I. After his discharger, he lived in Hull. On April 5, 1921, he married Ann Duits. They made their home in Sioux Center where he was an auto mechanic for many years and worked for the city of Sioux Center for 20 years, retiring at the age of 72. Mrs. Terpstra died on January 7, 1982.
He was a member of Central Reformed Church and had been a member of American Legion since 1920. He served many years as a Sioux Center volunteer fireman.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Elmer (Zeanna) Van Egdom of Paullina and Mrs. Kent (Kathleen) Hopkins of Holland, Michigan; a son, Lewis of Richmond, Virginia; and four sisters.
