Mr. Lambert Scholten died at his home Friday, Sept. 13, at the age of 78 years.
Mr. Scholten was born in Gelderland, Netherlands in 1861. On March 3 he was married to Miss M. Schwarz of Nywegen and the young couple left a few years later for America, arriving in Orange City, April 1, 1887. They had lived there in the neighborhood for over 51 years. He was also one of the older members of the 1st. Reformed Church.
For 24 years he was the janitor of the Public school but during his advancing age he forced to take up lighter work.
Four children were born to them. Dr. John who died in 1938; Minnie, Mrs. John Kroon of Sioux Center; Berdina died in 1919 and William of Pender, Nebraska.
He is also survived by grandchildren and a half sister, Mrs. Ed Vanden Brink of Sheldon, and by his widow.
Funeral services were held at the 1st. Ref. church with Rev. Henry Colenbrander in charge. Interment was in the Orange City Cemetery.
