Died: August 30, 2001Marie Moerman (Peters), 84, of Sioux Center, Iowa, went home to be with Jesus on Thursday, August 30, 2001 at the Sioux Center Community Hospital.
A funeral service was held Monday, September 3, 2001 at 10:00 A.M. at the Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center with the Rev. Bernie Haan officiating. Interment was held in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Sioux Center.
Marie was born to Jacob and Kate (Vander Stoep) Peters on July 2, 1917 in Orange City, Iowa. She married Cornelius Moerman on August 30, 1940 in her parents home near Hospers, Iowa. Except for three years in Michigan, they have always made their home in Sioux Center. She was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church and then became a charter member of Faith Christian Reformed Church. Marie had a wonderful spirit of serving others. She enjoyed being a homemaker which included her garden, cooking, and baking pies for others. She was a tireless caretaker and advocate for her daughter with disabilities, diligently providing life long care for Karen. She continued to host Karen for weekend visits until she was hospitalized this summer. She, along with her husband, Cornelius, belonged to the pioneering group of parents who insisted on raising their special children at home.
Survivors include one daughter, Karen of Orange City; Preston and Diane of Sioux Center; daughter, Jolene and Andrew Visser of Rock Valley; son, Curtis and LeeAnn of Sioux Center; 12 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; sister, Ester Scholten of Hospers; and brother, Herbert and Theresa Peters of Sheldon.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Caroline Visser and by her beloved husband of 59 years, Cornelius Moerman.
