Gertrude Sybesma, 76, of Sioux Center, died on Sunday, April 6, at her home in Sioux Center. Funeral services will be at the First Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center, with the Rev. John Witvliet officiating, on Tuesday at 2 p.m. (today). Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Sioux Center.
Ms. Sybesma was born to Syne and Christina (Broek)Sybesma on April 22, 1920, near Sioux Center. She received her education at Perkins Christian School and later worked at Sioux Center Community Hospital as a housekeeper for many years. She enjoyed crocheting and knitting and activities with family and friends. She was a member of First Christian Reformed Church.
Survivors include three sisters, Betsy Sybesma and Margaret Altena both of Sioux Center, Christina and her husband, Gerrit Rens of Hull; three brothers, William and his wife, Catherine, and John, all of Sioux Center, and Syne and his wife Margaret, also of Sioux center; three sisters-in-law, Angeline Bekius of Sheldon, Agnes Sybesma of Orange City and Shirley Sybesma of Hull; and many nephews, nieces, grand-nephews and grand-nieces.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Clarence, Dave and Stan. Memorials may be given to the Sioux Center Christian School Foundation.
At the funeral service, special music was provided by Emily Sybesma, organist, and Rachel Raih, soloist, which was "Abide With Me" and "O Lord, You Are My Light."
Congregational hymns were " What A Friend We Have In Jesus" and "Safe In the Arms of Jesus".
Casket bearers were Derrick Altena, Kent Altena, Brian Altena, Timothy Altena, Thomas Altena, Bradley Altena and David Altena.
