From the Thursday, August 13, 1925 Hawarden Independent:

PIONEER LADY PASSES AWAY

MRS. GEORGE F. WATT IS DEAD AFTER LONG ILLNESS

Came to Calliope in 1885 With Her Husband and Resided in This Locality Until Death

Mrs. George F. Watt, a resident of this community for 40 years, passed away Tuesday afternoon at her home following a prolonged illness. About a month ago she submitted to an operation at a Chicago hospital, her son, Dr. Harry F. Watt of Ocala, Fla., being present at the time. When it was learned that she could not recover and as soon as she was able to travel, Mrs. Watt returned home. She grew steadily worse, and was unconscious for fully 24 hours before death came. Funeral services were held this afternoon from the Watt home, conducted by Rev. A. R. Hyatt of Beresford, formerly pastor of the Congregational church here, now known as the Associated church. Burial was made in Grace Hill cemetery.

Ada Morton Pritchard was born at Amsterdam, Iowa, October 3, 1858; and died August 11,1925, and so lacked less than two months of being 67 years of age at the time of her death. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. D. Pritchard, pioneer residents of this vicinity and well known to many of the older residents here, her father having operated a store at Calliope in the early days. She was married to George F. Watt April 26, 1883, at Alden, Iowa, where she spent her girlhood, and the young couple came to Calliope in the year 1885. Two sons were born to them, Dr. Harry F. Watt of Ocala, Fla., and Perceval M. Watt of McNally. Besides her two sons and her husband, she is survived, by two sisters, Mrs. W. A. Helsell of Odebolt, Iowa, and Mrs. W. N. Oursier of Houston, Texas.

Mrs. Watt was greatly beloved in this community, and genuine sorrow is felt at her passing. She had been a member of the Congregational church and a clubwoman for years. She was a charter member of the Twentieth Century Club here and remained in that organization until it was disbanded a few years ago at the time the Hawarden Woman's Club was organized. Mrs. Watt then became a member of the new organization. She had the happy faculty of combining dignity with a fine sense of humor which made her a favorite among the members of her club. She will long be remembered for her kindly, gracious nature, and for her patience and fortitude in her great suffering.

The sympathy of the community is extended to the husband, sons and sisters of the deceased in their time of sorrow.

The out of town relatives at the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Helsell of Odebolt, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. W. Oursier of Houston, Texas; Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Ross of Sac City, the latter a sister of Mr. Watt; and Mr. and Mrs. P. M. Watt of McNally.
