Theodore Wiltgen, for 23 years a resident of Granville, and a well known and respected citizen of the town died suddenly early Wednesday morning from heart failure, brought on by rheumatism and hardening of the arteries. It was his custom to rise early and on Wednesday morning he was up before five and started out for a walk. Death overtook the 72 year old on the street near his home and was apparently instantaneous. He is survived by Mrs. Wiltgen and two daughters, Mrs Peter Eulberg of Alton and Miss Antonia, who have the deep sympathy of the community in their loss.

Theodore Wiltgen was born on June 20, 1850 at Belgium, Wisconsin. He was married to Miss Christine Wictor and seven daughters were born to the union, five having passed on. The family lived at Port Washington, Wis., later at Ossian, Iowa and came to Granville in 1899. Mr. Wilten was a blacksmith by trade, but has been retired for some years. A number of years ago he was caught in the tumbling rod of a threshing machine and so badly injured that he was not expected to live. He recovered, however, and apparently was none the worse for the accident.

Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 9 o'clock at St. Joseph's Church in Granville, with Rev. Gerleman officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
