Donald Van Ommeren, 62, of Boyden died on Monday, August 11, at Northwest Iowa Health Center in Sheldon.

Funeral services were Thursday at the United Presbyterian Church in Boyden, the Rev. John Goertz officiating. Interment was at Sheridan Township Cemetery near Boyden.

Donald Marvin was born on October 20, 1934, at Rock Valley, the son of Peter & Priscilla (Vermeer) Van Ommeren. His family farmed in Minnesota and later at Maurice, where he was graduated from high school.

On June 7, 1956, he married Marjorie Esther Kroeze at Orange City. They have lived in Boyden since April of 1969.

For many years, Don was a machinist at K & O Manufacturing in Hull. He was currently working part time at Stand-Aid in Sheldon.

Survivors include his wife; five children, Lynn and her husband, John Herzog, of Orange City; Barb Van Ommeren of Orange City; Marvin Van Ommeren and his wife, Kathy of Owatonna, Minnesota; Peter Van Ommeren of Melvin; and Sue and her husband, Lonnie Ladwig of Brandon, South Dakota.

Other survivors are four grandsons, Jordan Herzog; Austin Ladwig and Michael & Matthew Van Ommeren; his mother, Priscilla Van Ommeren of Maurice; three brothers, Stanley Van Ommeren and his wife, Anna Mae, of Maurice; Norman Van Ommeren and his wife, Margene of Orange City, and Dennis Van Ommeren of Maurice; and a sister, Ruth and her husband, David Heidebrink of Maurice.

He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Cheryl; a son, Kenneth and his father.
