Tillie Wielenga, 87 of Sioux Center, Iowa died Saturday, December 22, 2007 at the Royale Meadows Care Center in Sioux Center.

A funeral service will be held Thursday at 10Am at the Bethel Christian Reformed Church of Sioux Center with the Rev. Duane Tinklenberg officiating. Interment will be following in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 2pm to 8pm, with the family present from 6pm to 8pm at the Memorial Funeral Home.

Mathilda (Tillie) Wielenga was born on October 8, 1920 to John and Tillie (Baartman) Van Zee near Boyden, Iowa. Her mother passed away shortly after her birth, so Tillie was raised in the home of her uncle and aunt, Johannes and Anna (Baartman) Van Oort, near Middleburg, Iowa.

She attended the Middleburg Christian School until it closed and she attended the Christian Reformed Church in Middleburg. She remembers riding her pony, Lester, to country school. As a young woman, Tillie worked housecleaning jobs. She always kept a neat house and put up produce from her garden. Tillie loved to bake and make quilts from old clothes. Being a faithful wife and mother were most important to her.

On October 1, 1941, Tillie married Lawrence Wielenga of Boyden. They picked corn by hand the day after the wedding. Lawrence and Tillie farmed by Doon and Newkirk before settling on their farm near Hull. In September of 1983 they moved to Sioux Center, where they lived until mom became a resident of the Sioux Center Nursing Wing in April 2001.

Left to cherish her memory are husband of 66 years, Lawrence; two sons and their wives, Rodney (Lois Van Voorst) Wielenga of Orange City, Iowa and Darrekl (Lynn Landhuis) Wielenga of Hull, Iowa.; grandchildren, Even (Shondra) Wielenga, Bradley (Andrea) Wielenga, Levi (Carol) Wielenga, Luke, Lorn, Lyle and Ladd Wielenga; 3 great-granddaughters; Jenna, Haley and Jessica; sister, Elizabeth Hulst, brother, Anthony (Spike) Van Zee, both of Sheldon, Iowa and sister, Winnie Grevengoed of Hull, Iowa.

Tillie was preceded in death by her parents, John and Tillie Van Zee; four brothers and sisters-in-law; Henry and Delia Van Zee, Peter and Margaret Van Zee, Henry and Marietta Van Oort, Peter and Wilmina Van Oort; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Artie and Corwin Stanley and Eva and Frank Vander Wilt, Elizabeth and Charles Aardema; brother-in-law, Gerrit Grevengoed, Jake Koele, Henry Hulst, Klaas De Zeeuw, Bert Visser and sister-in-law, Vivian Van Zee.
