Funeral Services To Be Today For Charles Fleming

Charles H. Fleming, 64, a resident of Hawarden 35-years, died shortly after noon Monday in the William Hill home where he was painting, following a heart attack.

Mrs. Hill was talking to Mr. Fleming when he was stricken and he died almost immediately after he suffered the attack. Mrs. Hill rushed to the Dr. E. H. Von Glan residence and summoned Mr. Hill, who was working there, and Mrs. Von Glan.

Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock this (Thursday) afternoon in the Barnard Funeral Home with Rev. Paul Williams of the First Baptist church officiating. Burial will be in Grace Hill cemetery.

The Two Oakes post of the American Legion will be in charge of the graveside services,

A veteran of World War I, he was gassed while overseas. He had received treatments in Hines hospital and the Veterans hospital in Minneapolis for injuries suffered to his lungs. Of late years he had seemed to enjoy better health. He was awarded the Purple Heart while in the service.

A son of Mr. and Mrs. M. E. Fleming, he was born August 23, 1890, at Austin, Minn., where he grew up. He was married to Miss Jeanette Woodward of Hawarden November 7, 1917, and the following February 20, he entered the service.

Upon his return from the service he resided at Austin about six months and then came to Hawarden to live.

He was a member of Two Oakes Post of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans and the Last Man's club of Hawarden. He was also a member of the Woodmen of the World lodge and the Fraternal Order of Eagles,

He is survived by the widow; two brothers, Jesse and Leo Fleming of Austin, Minn.; four sisters, Mrs. Bertha Clark, Mrs. Margaret Hoffman and Mrs. Gertrude Lowen of Austin and Mrs. Mary Cooley of Norwalk, Calif., and two step-children, James Smith of Detroit, Mich., and Mrs. Mildred Jerred of Rapid City, S. D.
