Mr. John W. Vande Berg, 70, of Sioux Center, passed away Friday, April 22, at the Royal C. Johnson Memorial Veterans Hospital in Sioux Falls, after a one year illness.

Funeral services were held, Monday, April 25, at the American Reformed Church in Hull, with the Rev. Herman Van Galen officiating. Interment followed at St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, near Hull, under the direction of the Kraai-Oolman Funeral Home of Hull.

John Wilbur was born May 1, 1912, at Hull, the son of John Vande Berg and Alice Nettinga Vande Berg.

On November 25, 1932, he married Marie Schuett, near Hull. To this union, one daughter, Paula, was born. They lived in Hull, where John was engaged in the trucking and bus driving business. Marie passed away April 27, 1938.

From March 28, 1944, to March 10, 1946. Mr. Vande Berg served his country in the Armed Forces.

On June 25, 1948, he married Ethel Henrietta Stoehr Breuer at Fremont, Nebraska. Her daughter, Marlys, made her home with them. They moved to the family farm five miles south of Hull in Welcome Township. For 35 years, John farmed this land, which had been homesteaded by his grandfather, John Vande Berg.

He was an active member of the American Reformed Church and a member of the Wegman-Koele Post 380 of the American Legion, which conducted military rites at the graveside.

Survivors include his wife, Ethel; two daughters, Mrs. Merle (Paula) Dopp of Hartley, and Mrs. Harold (Marlys) De Boer of Sioux Falls, six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and two sisters, Mrs. Arie (Agnes) Koerselman of Sheldon, and Mrs. Lester (Kathleen) Van Muyden of Hull.
