Died: 5-23-1988

Otto Van Zandbergen, 96, Sioux City, retired dairy employee, died Monday, May 23 in a Sioux City nursing home after a long illness.

Services were on Wednesday, May 25 in the First Covenant Church with the Rev. Marc Peterson officiating. Burial was in Nassau Township Cemetery at Alton under direction of the Nelson-Berger Funeral Home.

Mr. Van Zandbergen was born June 8, 1891 in Alton where he was raised. He married Jennie DeRoos Feb. 11, 1915 in Alton. The couple farmed at Orange City and Sheldon. They retired from farming in 1943 and moved to Sandborn and to Sioux City in 1945. He was employed at Cudahy Packing Co. from 1943 until the late 1940's. He then was employed at Pilley's Dairy until his retirement in 1957.
Mr. Van Zandbergen was a Protestant.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Kenneth H. and Ronald O., both of Omaha and Robert L. of Tomahawk, Wis.; a daughter, Mrs. Sylvia Krohne of Norwalk, Calif.; two sisters, Mrs. Clara Scholten of Orange City and Mrs. Gertrude Hyink of Fremont, Mich.; eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mrs. Janell Betty Steele.
