Sarah Joy VanZandbergen, age 16, of rural Orange City, died Sunday, Aug. 18, 1991 in an automobile accident near Sheldon.

Sarah Joy was born Sept. 7, 1974, in Orange City, the daughter of Adrian Robert and Carol June (Hofmeyer) VanZandbergen. She was raised on a farm near Newkirk.

This fall she would of been a junior at Maurice-Orange City/Floyd Valley Community High School where she was a member of the volleyball team and of the band.

She was a baptized member of the Newkirk Reformed Church, as well as being a member of Reformed Church Youth Fellowship and the Girls League.

She is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Adrian Van Zandbergen of rural Orange City; a sister, Adri Ann, at home; and grandmother, Anna Jean Hofmeyer of Hospers.

Memorial services were held Wednesday, Aug. 21 at the Newkirk Reformed Church, rural Hospers, with the Rev. Kevin Ver Hoeven and the Rev. Phillip Sneller officiating. Interment was prior to the service at the Newkirk Cemetery, under direction of the Van Etten-Oolman-Van Gelder Funeral Home of Orange City.
