Wiliam VanDer Linden, 70, of Leota, Minn. died Nov. 26, 2004.

A funeral service was held on Tues. Nov. 30 at 10:30 a.m. at Ebenezer Christian Reformed Church in Leota. Rev. Joe Vanden Akker officiated. Burial was at the Leota Community Cemetery.

William was born Feb. 17, 1934, at Sioux Center, the son of Leendert and Johanna (De Groot) VanDer Linden. He grew up in Sioux County, attending country schools through the eighth grade in Doon and Maurice. He worked as a hired man for area farmers until 1955, when he joined the U.S. Navy.

On Feb. 16, 1956, he married Harriet Elizabeth Kroeze in Orange City. They made their first home in San Bernardino, Calif. He completed his tour of duty with the U.S. Navy and returned to Iowa. He then worked various jobs as a handyman.

In 1970, they moved to Minnesota where he began farming on variou farms throughout Southwest Minnesota. In 1975, when they made their home in Leota.

Mr. VanDer Linden was a member of Ebenezer Christian Reformed Church and the American Legion Post #42. He enjoyed spending time with family, fishing, camping, and helping his children farm.

Survivors include his wife, Harriet; six children and their spouses; Roger and Joan VanDer Linden of Edgerton, Minn., Helen and Wayne Krontje of Leota, Cheryl and Daryl Hook of Tyler, Minn., Sheila and Wesley DeKam of Edgerton, Vickie and Ivan Bouw of Edgerton and Pamela and Brent Hubers of Brandon, S.D.; 16 grandchildren; Jeffrey and Angie VanDer Linden, Thomas VanDer Linden and finace Ashley Tinklenberg, Michelle and Jason VanDer Lindedn, Amanda and Joseph Starzl, April and Jason Rieck, Zachariah and Derek Hook, Heather and Rodney Bleyenberg, Ashley and Courtney DeKam, Chelsey, Jordan, Jonathan and Cody Bouw and Trey Hubers; a great- grandchild, Gunner Starzl; Three brothers, Henry of Leota, Albertus of Worthington, Minn. and Adrian of Hull; a sister; Leona Rich of Hull.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, John and infant brother, James. Also brothers-in-law, Harold Rich, Ray Hulstein, John Wynia, and Edward Kroeze.
