Died: 2-5-2008

Mr. Delmar Wesselink, age 80, of Hull, passed away on Tuesday, February 5, 2008, at the Sioux Center Community Hospital.

There will be a funeral service on Friday, February 8, at 1:30pm at the First Reformed Church in Hull. The Rev. Verlyn Boone will officiate. Interment will follow at the Hope Cemetery in Hull. Visitation will be after 6:00pm on Thursday, with the family present from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Hull.

Delmar John was born on November 15, 1927, at Hull, the son of Daniel and Dora (Leusink) Wesselink. He was raised southwest of Perkins and graduated from the Hull Public High School. He then served in the United States Army at the end of World War II.

On January 24, 1950, he married Barbara Gritters at Hull. They lived at Hull and Newkirk, Iowa and Hardwick, Minnesota. In 1960 they settled at Hull. Barb passed away on February 60, 1967, in Sheldon.

On June 10, 1969, he married Karen Odens in Springfield, South Dakota. In the late 1970's, they moved to the family farm east of Hull. He retired in 1998, and in the spring of 1999, they moved into Hull. In October of 2000, he became a resident of the Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull.

Mr. Wesselink thoroughly enjoyed farming. In later years, he was also employed at Hope Haven in Rock Valley, and he was a driver of school buses and trucks. In addition, he operated a feed grinder.

He was a member of the First Reformed Church, where he served on the consistory as an elder, taught Sunday school classes for 25 years, and sang in the choir. He also participated in the M-2 Prison Ministries in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Delmar belonged to the Wegman-Koele American Legion Post in Hull, and he was a member of the original board of directors of the Lyon-Sioux Rural Water District.

He enjoyed watching sports events, especially basketball, and also wrestling, when his son was competing. He liked to play cards and watch television.

Survivors include his wife of more than 38 years; six children and their spouses, Betty and Gary Heckman, of Lake Havasu City, Arizona; Debra and Kurt Anderson, of Harwood, North Dakota; Daryl and Judi Wesselink, of Hull; Leah and Dave Bechtel, of Sioux Falls; Anita Wesselink, of Gardiner, Montana; and Karla and Christopher Hassebroek, of Harrisburg, South Dakota; eight grandchildren and their spouses, Dan Heckman, Jeff and Jennifer Anderson, Kelly and Luke Boe, Kelsi Wesselink, Courtni Wesselink, Erin Bechtel, Barbara Bechtel, and Lexy Bechtel; a great-grandson, Nathan Anderson; a brother and his wife, David and Bev Wesselink, of Newton; a brother-in-law and his wife, John and Maria Schoep, of Pipestone, Minnesota; and a sister-in-law, Marjean Wesselink of Edgerton, Minnesota.

In addition to his first wife, and parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Lucille Schoep, and a brother, Harlan Wesselink.
