Sioux Center News January 16, 1964

Funeral services were held at the First Christian Reformed Church here at 1:30pn Tuesday January 14, for Peter Moerman, Sr. 74, retired painter and a resident of Sioux Center since 1912, who died Sunday at the Sioux Center Community hospital of a heart ailment.

Services were conducted by the Rev. B. J. Haan and burial was made in the Sioux Center Community cemetery with Co-operative Funeral Service in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Moerman was born June 8, 1889, at Rotterdam, The Netherlands, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Cornelius Moerman. He came to America in 1911 at the age of 22 and settled briefly at Rock Valley before moving in 1912 to Sioux Center. He was married to Tryntje Schelling of Rock Valley on July 26, 1912, and to this union 13 children were born.

Mr. Moerman followed the painting trade here for many years prior to retiring a few years ago.

Survivors besides his widow include the following children; Cornelius of Sioux Center, John of Sioux City, Adrian of LeHigh Acres, Fla., Henrietta (Mrs. Lane Altena) of Sioux City, Peter Jr. of Hull, William of Sioux Center, Magdalena (Mrs. Wm. Rensink Jr.) of Sioux Center, Nellie Mae (Mrs. Jack Rodibaugh) of Zealand, Mich., Dena Elsie (Mrs. Elmer Cuperus) of Jenison, Mich., Paul of Sioux Center.

Also surviving him are a brother, Paul Moerman, and two sisters, Mrs. Joe Hansen and Mrs. Peter De Vos, all living in the Netherlands; 36 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Leonard Paul and Arie; one daughter, Katherine Leona; his parents and one brother and two sisters.
