Funeral services were held at St. John Lutheran Church of rural Boyden December 14 for the Rev. Henry J. Foege, 71, a native of Hull, who died December 10, at a Sioux Falls hospital following a heart attack.

Burial was in the church cemetery near Boyden.

The Rev. Foege served as pastor of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Pocahontas from 1946 until 1960, and recently had been serving as a regional director of the Good Samaritan Society with an office in Lincoln, Neb.

He was born in Hull July 25, 1902. After his ordination as a minister, he served as a missionary in New Guinea for a time, and also did missionary work in Montgomery, Ala., for a time. He was pastor of a church at Dows for five years before going to Pocahontas.

He was associated with the Bartels Home for the Aged at Waverly four years then joined the Good Samaritan Society staff in 1947. In 1964 he became area director for the Good Samaritan Society in Kansas, then regional director with offices in Lincoln, Neb. On November 1, 1973, he became director of development for the society, and made frequent trips to this area in connection with his positions.

He married Frieda Krause at George, June 26, 1929.

Survivors include the widow; three sons, Ronald of Carson, Calif., Romaine of Marion, Ia., and David of San Pedro, Calif., four daughters, Mrs. George (Maria) Herbener of Louisville, Ky., Mrs. David (Melinda) Meyer of Michigan City, ind., Mrs. Kenneth (Eunice) Hofmeyer of Des Moines, and Mrs. Ronald (Ruth) Shofbauer of Donnellson; 21 grandchildren; a brother, The Rev. William Foege of Wanatchee, Wash.; and three sisters, Mrs. Albert Fick of Luverne, Minn., Mrs. Carl Porath of Manson, Ia., and Mrs. William Fick of Hull.
