Vernon Kenneth was the son of John L. Schoep and Rhoda (Brinks) Schoep.

On June 24, he married Mildred L. De Jager at Orange City. He served in the United State Army during World War II.

For 19 years he was the manager of the National Food Store in Orange City. He and his wife then owned and operated Vern's Finer Foods in Orange city for 7 years. Since 1969, he has been employed by Vogel Paint and Wax Company of Orange City. He began as store supervisor and later was advertising manager and was involved in agency marketing. Most recently, he was editor of "Take Ten" the Vogel Company magazine.

He was a member of the First Reformed Church of Orange City, where he had served on the consistory as both elder and deacon and had taught Sunday School Clases. He was also a member of Pressman-Kosters Post 329 of the American Legion and was secretary of the Mended Hearts. In earlier years, he had been active in the Orange City Chamber of Commerce and the Tulip Festival Steering Committee.

Survivors include his wife; son, Robert, of Denver, Colorado; two daughters, Mrs. Alan (Linda) Donaldson, of Orange City; and Mrs. Brad (Pat) Roos, of Denison; 11 grandchildren; and sister, Mrs. Calvin (Ann) Groen, of Orange City.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Gerald and John
