Sioux Center News June 6, 1954

Funeral services for Mrs. J. P. Wierda were held Saturday afternoon, May 29, at the First Reformed Church with Dr. J. Colenbrander in charge. Burial was in the Orange City Cemtery.

Mrs. Wierda passed away at the Grossman Hospital at 5 a.m. Thursday morning after a lingering illness of four years.

Bessie Vander Schaaf was born March 4, 1875 in the Netherlands and came to this country with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Auke Vander Schaaf, at the age of 7 years.

On January 17, 1898, she married Peter Cambier. To this union two children were born, Sadie Mrs. Fred Zeilenga, of Bridgman, Michigan and Ruth Mrs. A. D. Van Etten of Orange City.

Mr. Cambier died February 21, 1932. In October of 1938 she was united in marriage to J. P. Wierda. Mr. Wierday preceded her in death on December 3, 1951.

Mrs. Wierda was a faithful member of the First Reformed Church, the Senior Ladies Aid Society, and the W.C.T.U.

Left to mourn her departure besides two daughters are two grandsons, Donald Dean Van Etten and Robert Roger Van Etten; two step grandchildren Tom Zeilenga and Gertrude Housman, both of Chicago; four step children, Mrs. Edward Sipma, Hollywood, Calif., Mrs. A. G. Jansma, Jefferson, Iowa and James Wierda, Webster City, Iowa and Ray Wierda of Alton, Iowa. The following brothers and sisters survive; Simon Vaner Schaaf, Rock Valley, Mrs. Dick Visser, Doon, Mrs. George Baartlett, Ireton, Ring Vander Schaaf, Primghar, and Mrs. Chas. Vander Ploeg of Orange City. One sister, Mrs. John Poppen, preceded her in death.
