Sioux Center News March 1, 1984

City Councilman Lewis Wierda, 70 of Maurice, died Thursday at Sioux City Hospital.

Services were at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the Reformed Church in Maurice with Rev. Edwards Fiske officiating. Burial was in Sherman Township Cemetery.

Mr. Wierda was born June 9, 1913 in Holland, Michigan. He married Lucille Franken on Aug. 11, 1933 in Sioux Center. The couple lived in Sioux Center for a number of years before moving to Maurice in 1942. He worked as an interior decorator.

Mr. Wierda was a member of the Reformed Church and served on the consistory. He served on the Maurice School Board.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Martin of Sioux Center, Louis Jr. of Anahem, Calif., and Clifton of Maurice; two daughters, Mrs. John (Marilyn) Noble of Le Mars and Mrs. Robert (Thelma) Burnk of Newberry Park, Calif.; five brothers, George Baker of Sioux City, Tom Wierda of Orange City, Ray and Marvin Wierda, both of Sioux Center and Bernard of Wheaton, Ill.; four sisters, Mrs. Henry (Delia) Franken and Mrs. John G. A. (Martha) Van Roekel, both of Sioux Center; Mrs. Pete (Jane Eva) Duits of Rock Valley and Mrs. Clarence (Myrtle) Kiel of Orange City; Nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
