Bernard Wierda, 70, of Sioux Center died Saturday, March 10, in Mesa, Arizona.

Services were at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Central Reformed Church, Sioux Center, with the Rev. Joel Bensema officiating. Burial was in Memory Gardens Cemetery, Sioux Center.

Wierda was born to Martin and Rena (Faber) Wierda on November 9, 1930, in Sioux Center. He received his early education in Sioux Center Schools, where he was a member of the basketball team. He entered the U. S. Army in September 1952. He was with the 653rd Field Artillery until his honorable discharge in 1954. He married Frieda Meade on July 2, 1955, in Ashland, Kentucky. He receoved a diploma in interior design from, the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts in May of 1956. He was employed at Montgomery Ward (Building Service) in Chicago from 1956-1989. He used that experience as a springboard from which to conduct his main work; which was investing. The couple lived in Chicago, Villa Park and Wheaton, Illinois, before moving to Sioux Center in 1989.

He was a member of Central Reformed Church and the American Legion. He became a member of Ridgeview Development Group. He enjoyed fishing and traveling. He was a devoted son, husband and brother.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years; two brothers, Reynold and Peggy and Marvin and Lorraine, all of Sioux Center; three sisters, Delia and Henry Franken and Martha and John Van Roekel, all of Sioux Center, and Mrytle and Clarence Kiel of Orange City; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Louis Wierda of Sioux Center and Mrs. Tom Wierda of Orange City.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Louis, George, and Tom; two sisters and their husbands, Jane Eva and Pete Duits and Henrietta and Bill Parsonson.
