Funeral services for Maria Zwaan, 89, of Forest City were held Thursday at the Calvin Christian Reformed Church in Rock Valley. Interment was in Valley View Cemetery, Rock Valley. Porter Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She died Monday, April 4, 1988, at the Good Samaritan Center in Forest City.

Maria was born November 26, 1898 in Middleburg. She attended rural schools and on February 12, 1926 she married Ralph Zwaan in Doon. They farmed for three years and then lived in Doon where Ralph operated a general Merchandising store in Doon. In 1945 they moved to Rock Valley where he ran a variety store. They both moved into Valley Manor Nursing Home in December 1978 and in 1980 they moved to the Good Samaritan Center in Forest City. Ralph died November 19, 1983.

Maria was a member of the Calvin Christian Reformed Church, Rock Valley.

Survivors include two daughters, Grace Kooiman and Mrs. Fred (Henrietta) Rizzo, both of Forest City, seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
