Wilmina Ykema, 70, died Friday, November 20, 1998 at the Mary Jane Brown Home, Good Samaritan Center in Luverne.

Wilmina Marie Wittebrood was born on March 9, 1928, at Rock Valley, Iowa. She was raised in the Rock Valley area and graduated from Rock Valley High School. She later attended Westmar College in Le Mars, Iowa. She returned to Rock Valley and taught country school for three years.

On August 24, 1948, she married Melvin Ykema at Rock Valley, Iowa. They made their home near Hawarden, Iowa, where they farmed. In 1962 they moved to Luverne. She moved to the Mary Jane Brown Home in Luverne in July, 1998.She was a member of the Luverne Christian Reformed Church.

In addition to her husband, survivors include a daughter, Karen Ykema of American Canyon Road, California; three sons, Greg of Meridian, Idaho, Darrel of Luverne and Brad of Jasper, Minnesota; six grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Services will begin at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, November 24, at the Luverne Christian Reformed Church with burial in the Maplewood Cemetery in Luverne.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 P.M. Monday at the Engebretson Funeral Home, Luverne, and one hour at the church prior to the funeral, with the family present Monday from 7 to 8 P.M.
