Life Legacy
Ms. Sheila Visser, age 47, of Orange City, passed away on Wednesday, September 4, 2013, at the Orange City Area Health System Hospital.
There will be a memorial service on Saturday, September 7, at 10:00am, at the Living Water Community Church in Orange City. The Rev. Jason Van Wyk will officiate. Interment will be prior to the service at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. There will be a prayer service for family and close friends on Saturday, at 9:00am, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.
Visitation will be after 4:00pm on Friday, with the family present from 5:00pm to 8:00pm, at the funeral home.
Sheila Beth was born on May 16, 1966, in Rock Rapids, the daughter of Leroy and Jane Koedam. She was raised on a farm near Rock Valley, where she attended the Christian School. She graduated from the Hull Western Christian High School in Hull.
On June 19, 1985, she married Paul Lyle Visser in Rock Valley.
Sheila made her home in Orange City, where she was a homemaker and worked at Conoco for the last seven years. She was previously employed as a secretary, a dog groomer, and at Revival Animal Health.
She was a member of the Living Water Community Church and had earlier attended the Immanuel Christian Reformed Church in Orange City. She also participated in Women of Faith.
Sheila enjoyed reading, going on family vacations, traveling, spending time at the lakes, attending movies, and being with her friends and family, especially her granddaughters.
Survivors include her four children, Jessica Visser, and her partner, Tyler Otis, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Paul Visser, and his partner, Dana Franken, of Ireton; Taylor Visser, of Sioux Falls; and Nicole Visser, of Orange City; two granddaughters, Skye Marie Otis and Kyla Jade Visser; her parents, Leroy and Jane Koedam, of Rock Valley; a sister and her husband, Julie and Galen Vande Vegte, of Inwood; and two brothers and their wives, Terry Lee and Kay Koedam, of Carmel, and Scott and Stephanie Koedam, of Rock Valley.
She is also survived by her former husband’s family, his mother, Marge Visser, of Orange City; his four sisters, Belinda (Dan) Pluim, and Valerie (Randy) Droog, all of Orange City; Carol (Doug) Bootsma, of Sanborn; and Donna Vander Linden, of California; and his brother-in-law, Art Vander Wilt, of Hospers.
She was preceded in death by an infant brother, Terry; her former father-in-law, Paul Visser, Sr.; and her former sister-in-law, Karla Vander Wilt.
