Grace Bouma, 92, of Rock Valley, died Saturday, March 12, 2005 at the Valley Manor Nursing Home, Rock Valley.

Funeral service was March 16 at Calvin Christian Reformed Church with the Rev. Roger Sparks officiating. Burial was in Hillside Cemetery at Doon, under the direction of Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley.

Grace Bouma was born Aug. 1,1912 the daughter of Hendrik and Grietje (Brouwer) Zwaan in Andyk, The Netherlands. Her family moved to the United States when she was three years old. On Dec. 20, 1933 she married John Bouma at Martin, S.D. They farmed near Ireton and Maurice before moving to Hull. They later farmed near Inwood, Doon, Sioux Center and Steen, Minn., before moving back to Doon. They moved to Rock Valley in 1991. Mr. Bouma died on May 23,1995. She moved to Valley Manor Nursing Home in Rock Valley on Feb. 3, 2003

Survivors include two sons, Leonard and Trudy Bouma of Sioux Falls and John and Judy Bouma of Hudsonville, Mich.; four daughters, Grace Vanden Heuvel-Dayton of Sioux Falls, Gerdena Dirksen of Sanborn, Brenda and Larry Eichmann of Sioux Falls and Betty and Harlan Groeneweg of Rock Valley; son-in-law, Harold Van Berkum of Rock Valley; 31 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and brother, Nick Zwaan of Steen, Minn.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Bouma; son, Henry Bouma; daughter, Marge Van Berkum; two sons-in-law, John Dirksen and Gerald Vanden Heuvel; grandson, Jason Vanden Heuvel; three brothers and three sisters.
