Winter, Henry 1877-1941

Henry Winter, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry J. Winter of Cadenberge, Hanover, Germany was born November 14, 1877, the fourth child of a family of seven. He entered membership with the Lutheran Church April 14, 1892.

He came to America at the age of 17, coming to Boyden in March 1893 to stay with his uncle. On November 18, 1903 he was married to Catherine Sterenberg and resided 3 years on a farm then 3 years in Hull then they moved to Elkton, South Dakota where they lived until 1916. When he became afflicted with asthma they went to Denver, Colorado to get relief, later moving back to Sheldon. In 1926 they moved back to Hull and in 1931 they voyaged to Germany to seek aid for his asthma but no cure was found and they returned to live on a farm northeast of Hull where he lived at the time of his death. In 1940 he entered the Mayo Clinic at Rochester but nothing could be done for him and he passed away April 5, 1941.

He is survived by his widow, two brothers and two sisters, August and Louise of Germany, Christine, Mrs. John Carsten of Elkton, South Dakota and John of Pipestone, Minnesota and many other relatives and friends.

The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon April 9, at 1 o’clock at the home and 1:30 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church with Rev. A.F. Zenk officiating.
