Marvin Peter Bosma, 83, Sanborn, died Monday, Oct. 3, at Northwest Iowa Health Center in Sheldon.

Services were Thursday, Oct. 6, at Sanborn Christian Reformed Church. Burial was at Roseland Cemetery in Sanborn, under the direction of Sanborn Funeral Home.

Marvin Bosma, son of Bert and Jenny (Vermeer) Bosma, was born April 2, 1922, in Middleburg. He lived his youth at Middleburg and Boyden and attended country school in both communities. He married Dorothy Hofman on Dec. 18, 1941, at the home of her parents in Sanborn. They lived and farmed at Sheldon and then at Sanborn for a total of 25 years. He also was a sales manager for Doboy Feeds for 19 years. After he retired from farming they moved back to Sheldon in December of 1966. They entered the Christian Retirement Home in Sheldon on Nov. 21, 2002. He moved to Prairie View Nursing Home in Sanborn in February of 2005.

He was a member of Sanborn Christian Reformed Church and had served on the board of Sanborn Christian School. They enjoyed their winters in the South and had done so for about 27 years, spending the first four months at the Alamo Rec-Veh Park at Alamo, TX, and the last three months at the Sarasota Bay Travel Park in Bradenton, FL. While in Texas, he enjoyed performing at many churches with the Alamo Rec-Veh Park Quartet. His hobbies and special interests included woodworking and music. He had many times combined the two in the building of musical instruments including; guitars, violins, banjos and mandolins. He also played the guitar and harmonica and often at the same time. He loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Bosma of Sanborn; three children, Bonnie and Gary Kreykes of Sanborn, Dennis and Cindy Bosma of Sheldon, and Pat and Jon Sybesma of Sanborn; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Johanna Slothouber of Sheldon, and Trudy and Edwin Brouwer of Sanborn.

He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Lisa Kreykes; and a brother-in-law, Casey Slothouber.
