Hawarden Independent January 19, 1928

S.L. Truman of Onawa, former well known Hawarden resident, received probable fatal injuries at Monte Bello, Calif. when an automobile in which he was riding was struck by a car of the Pacific Railway Company according to a dispatch in the daily press. No particulars concerning the accident have been received. Mr. Truman left Onawa a couple of weeks ago in company with two other gentlemen of that place to visit members of his family in California. He is 72 years of age.

The truman family resided in Hawarden for several years during which time, Mr. Truman worked in a local meat market and he also conducted a shop here of his own for a time. The family left here more than fifteen years ago moving to Alcester, where they lived for a number of years and later moved to Onawa. His many old Hawarden friends will be grieved to learn of the accident and trust that it may result more favorably than press dispatched indicate.
