Vicki Towns, 3-year-old daughter of Pfc. and Mrs. Ed H. Towns, was killed Saturday evening at Beresford when she was struck by a hit-run driver. The child, who lived with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. C.V. Stoner, was hit by an automobile while she was standing on the curb near the walk in front of the Stoner home.

Pfc. Towns, who is in the marine corps and stationed at San Diego, Calif., arrived Sunday morning after an all night plane trip from his base. He was granted a two-week leave.

Pfc. and Mrs. Towns formerly lived in Hawarden, where he made his headquarters for some time as district circulation manager for the Sioux City Journal. Shortly after Vicki's birth, the family moved to Sioux City to make their home. After the father entered the services, the mother and children went to Beresford to live with her parents.

Besides her parents, Vicki is survived by a brother, Kirk, and two sisters, Dianne and Margaret, grandson of Ed Towns. Funeral services held at Beresford Tuesday morning.

Although Vicki was only three and a half years old at the time of her death, she was said to have had many friends. Her aunt, Edna Stoner, played a game with Vicki each morning as Vicki came from her small bed.

Vicki was playing with her cousin and sister near the sidewalk at the home of her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. C. V. Stoner, when Vicki was hit and killed instantly by a car. Vicki's cousin went into the home to inform the family.

At the time of Vicki's death, her father, Pfc Towns, was at a Marine Base at San Diego, California. With the help of the Red Cross, he traveled by Navy transport to Kansas City and then to Sioux City by commercial plane, arriving the following noon in Beresford, South Dakota.
