Funeral services for George Treiber, 73, who died of a heart attack in his home at Alcester last Thursday, were held Monday afternoon in Trinity Lutheran church in Hawarden with Rev. O.F. Pittack conducting the service.

Internment was made in Pleasant Hill cemetery at Alcester, arranged by the Nilson Funeral home, and the Two Oakes Post #254, Hawarden American Legion, conducted military graveside rites.

George Casper Treiber, one of eight children born to Jacob Trieber and Anna Marie, nee Erny, was born at Rock Valley April 18, 1889, and near the turn of the century he moved to Hancock, Minn. He came to the Hawarden community in about 1908 and became affiliated with the local congregation in 1914.

He was among the first draftees to leave Sioux county during World War I, entering service on September 21, 1917. He was assigned to the Remount Station of the Army at Camp Dodge near Des Moines until his honorable discharge March 4, 1919. During the next few years he farmed with a brother and in 1921 he entered into a partnership of cattle feeding east of Hawarden.

On March 3, 1927, he married Rena Helgen, Rev. Mattaides, pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran church of Sioux City, performing the ceremony. During the next four years he lived on a farm two miles east of Hawarden. In 1931 he purchased a farm four and one half miles west of this city where he lived during the next 20 years. He retired to Alcester on February 13, 1951.

Mr. Treiber took an active part in both religious and civic affairs. He served his congregation as a member of the voters' assembly held several offices was a member of a number of committees and a representative of his congregation at several district-wide functions.

He served his community in the promotion of a number of projects, and his town as a councilman and as mayor from 1957 to 1961. He was also widely known as a successful cattle feeder.

Preceding him in death, besides his parents, were four brothers Martin, Philip, John and William and one sister, Barbara (Mrs. Carl) Klumb.

Survivors include the widow, rena of Alcester; one brother, Peter, and one sister, Ida (Mrs. Louis) Wegner, both of this city.
