Died August 31, 1997

Fred De Beer, 69, of Orange City died Sunday, August 31, at the Orange City Municipal Hospital. Services were Wednesday at American Reformed Church in Orange City, with the Rev. Harlan Van Oort officiating. Burial was at West Lawn Cemetery.

De Beer was born on November 29, 1927 in Sanborn, the son of John and Johanna (De Vries) De Beer. He was raised in Plymouth County. He was graduated from Northwestern Academy and Northwestern College in Orange City. He served in the U. S. Army after World War II.

He married Lois Wielenga on November 22, 1949, in Orange City. The couple farmed in Carnes; he then taught school in Prinsburg, Minnesota, for five years. He was later employed as a communication operator for the Sioux County Sheriff for seven years.

In 1995, he entered Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull and in 1996 entered the Long-Term-Care Facility at Orange City Municipal Hospital.

He was a member of American Reformed Church. He taught Sunday School for 25 years at various churches. He was a volunteer with the Sioux County Soil Conservation and the March of Dimes.

Survivors include his wife; nine children, Rachel De Beer of Muscatine; Peter De Beer and his wife Rachael, of Orange City; Judy and her husband, Craig Stark, of Des Moines; Sheila and her husband, Keith De Boer, of Orange City; Shawn and her husband, David Langkamp, of Oskaloosa; Pamela and her husband, Steve Nogel, of Weatherford, Texas; Jill and her husband, Garret Apel,of Beason, Illinois; Rebecca and her husband Ed Vander Wilt of Sheldon; and Christopher De Beer and his wife Kristen, of Charlottesville, Virginia; eighteen grandchildren; a brother, John De Beer of San Diego, Califoria; five sisters, Darlene Vander Aarde and Minerva Van Peursem both of Orange City; Marilyn Hoffs of Phoenix Arizona; Ruth Wilson of Grosse Point Woods, Michigan; and Laura Peuse of Holstein.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Peter in 1950.

Memorials are being directed to Sioux County Hospice.
