John Mantel, 69, of Doon died Tuesday in a hospital in Sioux Center after a long illness.

Services were Friday in the Doon Protestant Reformed Church. The Rev. Marvin Kamps officiated. Burial was in the Hillside Cemetery.

Mr. Mantel was born March 15, 1913, at Lebanon, Iowa.

He married Gladys Schutt Feb. 5, 1937, at Sioux Center. He did custom work in the Doon area for 35 years.

Survivors include his wife; four sons, John and Marvin, both of Doon; five daughters, Mrs. Glen (Joanne) Greeley of Coon Rapids, Minn., Mrs. Roger (Cynthia) Hofstra of Sheldon, Mrs. Jim (Marge) Hoogendoorn of Doon, Mrs. Dick (Francine) Lowrie of Boyes Hot Springs, Calif and Mrs. Alan (Sandie) Thielvoldt of Rock Valley; two sisters, Mrs. Ann Ver Mulm of Hudson, S.D. and Mrs. Fred (Effie) Winterswyk of Chino, Calif; three brothers, Jacob of Doon, Clarence of Seattle, Wash. and Bill of Ontario, Calif. and 22 grandchildren.
