George F. Armington, 80, of Sioux Center died Monday, September 11, at Sioux Center Community Hospital.

Funeral services were at 10:30am. Thursday at Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center with the Rev. Eugene Murray officiating. Burial was in Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Armington was born to George W. and Clara (Gaffney) Armington on July 24, 1920, in Boston, Massachusetts. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force on November 17, 1941. He served with the 526th Bomb Squad of the 379th Bomb Group. He was part of the bomber crews who flew many missions over Europe. He was released from active duty with an Air Force Bronze Star on September 30, 1945. He married Katherine Den Hartog on December 29, 1944 in Sioux City. They loved in Boston, where he worked at Atlantic Printing Company. The couple retired and moved to Sioux Center in 1996. He was a member of the American Legion Doornink-Brunsting Post 199.

He enjoyed sailing and photography.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years and brother Richard W. of Walpole, Massachusetts.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
