Harold A. Bomgaars, 79, of Sioux City died Monday, March 26, 2001, at a Sioux City retirement home.

Services will be at ten A.M. Friday at Morningside Reformed Church, with the Rev. Merrill Muller and Henry Muller officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the U.S. Navel Reserve. Visitation will be four to nine P.M. today, with the family present from seven to nine P.M. and a Masonic Service at seven-thirty P.M. conducted by Landmark Lodge 103 A.F. & A.M., all at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Mr. Bomgaars was born February 27, 1922, in Hull, Iowa, the son of William H. and Tena (DeVelder) Bomgaars. He attended grade school in Sioux City and graduated from Central High School in 1940. He attended Morningside College. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and U.S. Navy. He later graduated from the University of Iowa School of Business in 1947. He married Mary Jane Bates on March 28, 1948, in Holland, Michigan.

After completing college, he entered into his father’s business, “Bomgaars Auto Supply” as a wholesale automotive parts territory salesman. In 1952, the Bomgaars family entered the farm store style of business expanding into general merchandise over the years. He was currently serving as chairman of the board of Bomgaars Supply Inc.. He turned over the presidency to his son in 1991. Bomgaars operates 15 retail stores in Iowa, South Dakota and Nebraska; and has a warehouse in Sioux City.

He was a member of Morningside Reformed Church, Landmark Lodge 103 A.F. & A.M., Abu Bekr Shrine Temple, where he was in the Jesters and White Horse Mounted Patrol.
