Leona Wiersma, 79, of Sioux Center, died Saturday, March 25, at Sioux Center Community Hospital. Memorial services were this morning, Tuesday, March 28, at Vander Ploeg Chapel in Sioux Center with Rev. Brad Langstraat officiating. Burial was at West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City.
She was born on December 20, 1915, at Preston, Minnesota, the daughter of Henry and Jennie (Gells) Kempers. She married Tony Wiersma on January 6, 1937, in Orange City. She had lived in Orange City and Baudette, Minnesota, and moved to Sioux Center in 1985. Her husband died on December 23, 1985.
Survivors include three sons and their wives, Dean and Shirley of Miltona, Minnesota, Kenneth H. and Mary and Terry and Lori, all of Sioux Center, a daughter, Evelyn and her husband, Peter T. De Jong, of Rock Valley; a sister, Elvena Den Beste of Sioux City; 13 grandchildren; and 13 great- grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son and two brothers and one sister.
